In this tutorial we will cover some of the basics behind map layers. A map can be
made up of many map layers. In this particular map we have several base layers like
bathymetry and GOM blocks. This map also contains two custom layers - Noble's mobile
rigs in the GOM and active leases held by ConocoPhillips.
There are several ways to get map layers onto your map. The easiest way to add layers
to your map is to use one of the prebuilt layers offered by GOMExplorer. Prebulit
layers are derived from MMS data or Rigzone properitary databases like our Field
Development and Mobile Rig Databases.
If you have your own data you would like to integrate into GOMExplorer simply click
the My Data tab. You can then import your data for mapping and reporting within
GOMExplorer.
You can create your own fully customized map layers by clicking the Create New Layer
tab. A map layer typically has an associated tabular report. You can view all the
available map layers and associated reports by clicking the Report List tab.
The Report List page contains all of the map layers and reports you have created,
shared layers and reports created by your colleagues and any prebuilt reports created
by the Rigzone Team. You can view a report and export reports to PDF and Excel by
clicking the View Report button. You can also edit the reports search criteria
and place the associated map layer on any map within GOMExplorer.
This concludes the Map Layers overview tutorial.
